Universal Sign Language for the Beverage Cart Girl

Is it me, or even my golf group, which is different all the time ... when we see the cart girl and hold up our hand, or wave, or whatever, she always thinks we mean the opposite of what we actually mean? It's uncanny. You would think that we'd be on the same page, oh maybe, half the time!

Sometimes, we hold a hand up to stop her. But, she takes that gesture as "No, thanks, we're fine." And, she starts driving off. Of course, we start yelling, but since she's driving a gas-powered cart, she can't hear us. (But, somehow everyone else on surrounding holes can hear us. Oops, sorry.) If we wave to her, so also thinks that means, "Ok, bye! It's 95 degrees out, but we're not thirsty!"

They get tips, don't they? So, since this phenomenon happens all the time, I started thinking that we need some kind of universal golf sign language for the beverage cart girl. Any suggestions?

In order to improve your golf game, or for that matter any aspect of your life, you have to first "rescramble" how the brain works. The neural patterns that have been addictively firing off thoughts and emotions over the months, years, and decades of your life must now be rewired in order for anything on the outside (i.e., your golf swing) to change. You simply can't keep whacking golf balls with old, worn out thoughts and emotions and an ornery temperment and expect much to improve.

Play from the Proper Tees

Play from the Proper Tees! I think the USGA needs a campaign to get everyone on board with this program - it'll be better for all golfers.

I'm talking to the guys who think they are big hitters and good golfers, for the most part. It's amazing to watch guys go straight to the "tips" to play. Then, if you watch just one practice swing, you know they shouldn't be there, and it's going to be painful to watch, and really brutal to play behind them.

I think that only golfers who are card-carrying single digit golfers should be allowed to play from the championship tees - the "tips" - the "back" tees. If you are serious enough about the game of golf and your own golf game, you'll probably have an established handicap through your state's amateur golf association and GHIN system. If you can't prove that you have an official handicap, and it's less than 10, or even 8, then play from the middle tees. Guys can have a competitive, fun round playing 6,000 - 6,500 yards. And, it's absurd for almost all of these guys to play any longer yardage.

Golf course owners and operators might be afraid to enforce this rule. That's understandable. They would be afraid of losing business. But, it also shows that too many guys are playing from the wrong tees. Most business owners know that there is good business and bad business, and some business is worth losing, to attract better business.

Enforcing a rule to play from the appropriate tees would really help the pace of play, which will enhance the experience, and shorten the time to play a round.

Golf can be challenging enough. And, there are supposed to be components of the game - driving, short game, putting, bunkers. The game is not about distance. It's about all of these things, not to mention etiquette and honor. Play the right set of tees for your ability, so that everyone out there can enjoy their rounds.

Relaxation is not usually something that happens all by itself. Instead, it comes from first observing the tension and resistance in our bodies, and then making the conscious decision of "letting it go." Left to its own unconscious devices, the body, much like the Mind, will remain tense and uptight.
